Professor Ruian Xu completed his first degree training in Marine Biology from Shanghai Ocean University in 1976 and his PhD degree from Otago University, NZ in 1989. After three years of postdoctoral training, he worked as research scientist at Mt Albert Research Center, DSIR. Professor Xu then took up the position as senior research fellow and director of Gene Therapy Core at Auckland University Medical School and Thomas Jefferson University until 2001, he transferred to Hong Kong University. He was awarded as Honor Professor by Peking Medical Union College in 2002. He served as the founder Dean of School of Medicine, School of Biomedical Science & Institute of Molecular Medicine, Huaqiao University, China from 2006-2016. He also serves as the foundering director of Engineering Research Center of Molecular Medicine, Ministry of Education, China since October 16, 2007 and the foundering director of Fujian Provincial Key Lab of Molecular Medicine since December 1, 2015.
