Dr. Hong Shen is the Director and Professor of the Institute of Medical Sciences, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University (CSU), Changsha, Hunan, China. With more than 23 years involvement in liver diseases, he is also an accomplished molecular biologist. Dr. Shen received his BA from Huazhong University of Science & Technology, Master and Ph.D. degrees from CSU, China. He completed his surgical residency at Xiangya Hospital, CSU. Between 2000 and 2006, he received his medical science training at the University of Manitoba, Canada. Dr. Shen is a member of many medical societies, has published more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and serves on the editorial board for several medical journals. His principal research interests are in signal transduction and gene regulation of transforming growth factor beta in hepatic cells, liver fibrosis, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-regulated invasion and metastasis in hepatocellular carcinoma. He has received several funding from National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and provincial grants. In addition, he has received some professional awards.
