David Chow has been an assistant professor in Building Services Engineering and Sustainable Energy Technology at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China since March 2010. He is involved with the teaching of undergraduate and post-graduate modules, and is currently the programme leader for the Architectural Environment Engineering programme. Before this post, he was a senior lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University for three years where he was responsible for the development and delivery of the environmental modules to both undergraduate and post-graduate students of the architecture and architectural technology programmes. As well as teaching, he also has a strong interest in research, especially on topics related to sustainability in the built environment and the adaptation and mitigation of climate change.
He completed his PhD at the University of Manchester in July 2005 with the thesis title “The Effects of Future Climate Change and Near-Extreme Weather on Office Buildings in the UK”. His work includes the analyses of future weather data for the UK, under various scenarios, for the time-slices 2020s, 2050s and 2080s; the downscaling of daily weather data to hourly data and computer modelling of building performances and heating and cooling demand for office buildings in the UK. After the completion of his PhD, he managed the distance learning MSc programme in Sustainable Electrical Building Services Engineering at the University of Manchester, as the Programme Manager.
David’s first degree was in Architecture from the University of Bath, and after gining this degree, he then did a second undergraduaate degree in Building Services Engineering at UMIST, where he got a First Class Honours Degree in 2001 together with several prizes including the Norweb/Manweb Prize for Top Student.
He is currently a visiting lecturer at the University of Manchester and the University of Bath.
