Las bibliotecas universitarias est芍n enfrentando nuevos desaf赤os en su gesti車n, entre otras causas, los cambios experimentados por los sistemas de la educaci車n superior que condicionan otras formas de ense aza y aprendizaje. En este contexto, se requiere adecuar los m谷todos y estilos de trabajo de estas instituciones que por siglos han contribuido a la educaci車n y a la formaci車n de nuevos conocimientos. Se realiza una panor芍mica sobre los retos que enfrentan las bibliotecas universitarias y la necesidad de convertirlas en centros para el aprendizaje y la investigaci車n. Muy especialmente se trata el contexto de estas en el espacio europeo de la educaci車n superior, as赤 como los temas de la calidad y la evaluaci車n. University libraries are facing new challenges to their management due, among other causes, to the changes experienced by the higher education systems that require other ways of teaching and learning. In this context, the work methods and styles of these institutions that for centuries have contributed to the education and acquisition of new knowledge should be adapted. An overview is made of the new challenges faced by university libraries and the need to turn them into learning and research centres. Their role in the higher education sphere in Europe is specially analyzed, as well as the quality and evaluation topics.
