As a natural working medium with excellent comprehensive performance, CO2 plays an important role in improving environmental problems. Based on environmental protection and safety CO2, a new CO2 heat pump and refrigeration cycle was constructed by using a supersonic two-phase expander with high cooling efficiency, simple structure and no mechanical moving parts as an expansion and cooling device. The thermodynamic analysis and simulation study of the new cycle were carried out. The results show that the ideal heat pump cycle has a maximum heat pump coefficient COPh of 5.83 and a maximum refrigeration coefficient COPc of 4.90, showing good heating and cooling performance. Under the condition of air conditioning temperature zone, the COP of the new CO2 refrigeration cycle is 6.69, which is 1.63 times that of the existing CO2 transcritical refrigeration cycle with relatively optimal refrigeration performance. In addition, the operating pressure of the system is greatly reduced, and the safety and reliability are improved. Under the condition of refrigerator temperature zone, COPc is stable around 3.5 with the increase of STPE inlet pressure, and the relative Carnot efficiency is maintained around 0.78. The research shows that the new CO2 heat pump and refrigeration cycle based on supersonic two-phase expander have certain development potential, which provide a possible reference for CO2 utilization.
