The number of patients worldwide is estimated to reach 12.3 million by 2030and 22.8 million by 2050. Damage in various brain regions could cause different symptoms except cognitive declines, such as changes in personality or problems with language. Gardenia jasminoides J.Ellis.isatraditionalChinesemedicine,whichnotonlyhasantioxidative,anti-inflammatoryand antibacterialeffects,butalsohasprotectiverolesondigestivesystemandischemia-relatedbrain damage. GJ-4 is extracted from the fruit of Gardenia jasminoides J. Ellis. and it could alleviate memory deficiency in Alzheimer’s disease animal models in our previous studies. The present experiment was designed to evaluate the therapeutic effects of GJ-4 on permanent bilateral common carotid arteries occlusion(2-VO) induced VD rats and elucidate the underlying mechanisms both in vivo and in vitro.
