摘要
In recent years, lithium-ion battery (LIBs) has been widely used in energy storage systems such as electric vehicles, portable electronic devices, etc. However, frequent thermal runaway during battery operation has seriously affected LIBs safety. Therefore, it is imperative to develop LIBs separator materials with thermal stability. In this work, the characteristics and defects of commercial polyolefin separators were first analyzed. Next, the methods to improve the thermal stability of LIBs separators were investigated, such as surface modification of polyolefin separators, new high heat-resistant polymer separators, and the separators with thermal shutdown performance. Finally, the key challenges and prospects in this field were presented.
