摘要

Since the occurrence of a series of pedestrian-induced large lateral vibration on footbridges such as the Paris Solferino Bridge and the London Millennium Bridge, scholars have began to recognize the particularity and complexity of pedestrian-induced lateral vibration of footbridges, and then a new research field was initiated, focusing on revealing the relevant mechanism. Despite numerous research results in the past two decades, the mechanism of pedestrian-induced lateral vibration of footbridges has not yet been explained in a clear and authoritative way, and the complexity of underlying mechanism hasn?t been well understood. In view of the fact, based on the authors? research work accumulated in nearly ten years, the research status and the mainstream research achievements in the field of pedestrian-induced lateral vibration of footbridges are reviewed in detail from the multiple perspectives, including actual cases, experimental tests, and theoretical model development. Meanwhile the convincing self-excited force model (especially the inverted pendulum model) is emphatically introduced. The purpose of this review is to help people understand the underlying complex mechanism of pedestrian-induced lateral vibration of footbridges, and also to provide a theoretical basis for the improvement of the relevant specifications on footbridge. ? 2023 Editorial Office of China Civil Engineering Journal.
