2-Chloromethyl Benzimidazole was synthesized by conventional heating and microwave irradiation in the presence of o-phenylenediamine with chloroacetic acid, using hydrochloric acid as catalyst.The effects of microwave irradiation time, microwave output power and material ratio on the yield were investigated. The experimental results show that microwave radiation shortens the reaction time and increases the reaction rate and yield, the optimum microwave irradiation conditions are: the output power is 700 W, the intermittent irradiation time is 10 min, n(o-phenylenediamine):n(chloroacetic acid) was 1:1.14, and the yield of the target product is 66.9%. ? 2020, Editorial Office of Speciality Petrochemicals.
