摘要
Short-offset transient electromagnetic method (SOTEM) is a newly-developed kind of TEM device for deep exploration in recent years, which has shown great potential in the field of deep coalfield hydrogeological survey and the others. In this paper, the advantages of SOTEM method were demonstrated by reviewing the research history of SOTEM method, summarizing the research status in forward modeling, inversion, field working, additional effect and equipments, and analyzing a case history. The results showed that SOTEM has a better performance at greater depths (about 2 000 m) than the conventional loop source TEM. The transceiver distance of SOTEM is reduced to one sixth of that of the traditional long offset TEM, and the accuracy is increased by 1.5 times. Both the conductive and resistive targets can be well detected by SOTEM by observing different electromagnetic field components. The surface SOTEM can be extended to surface-borehole and ground-airborne SOTEM devices to improve the detection accuracy and efficiency for different scenarios.
