A series of NaYF4 ∶ Yb3+ / Nd3+ nanoparticles were synthesized by coprecipitation method. The near-infrared emissions within the first biological window with peaks at 752, 804 and 862 nm were recorded under 980 nm excitation, corresponding to the 4F7/ 2→4I9/ 2, 4F5/ 2→4I9/ 2, and 4F3/ 2→4I9/ 2 transitions of Nd3+, respectively. In particular, the luminescence of Nd3+ shows a rapid increase with lifting the temperature instead of thermal quenching. For instance, the 752 nm emission recorded at 443 K is 83. 7 times higher than that at 303 K. The temperature sensing property was investigated by using the luminescence intensity ratio of Nd3+ emissions, showing relative sensitivity up to 3. 07% K-1(303 K). All experiment results indicate that NaYF4 ∶ Yb3+ / Nd3+ nanoparticles are an ideal candidate for temperature sensing materials. ? 2023 Editorial Office of Chinese Rare Earths.
