This article explores Pardo Baz芍n∩s dialogue with realist representational fiction, with its voyeuristic obsessions, by revisiting certain passages in the novel Dulce Due o and reviewing recent feminist scholarship (Bieder, Bacon, Medina and Kirkpatrick) that sees the novel to varying degrees as subversive of the male gaze. While these critics correctly see the novel as gesturing towards modernity, this article examines also its backward glance at earlier woman-plots in relation to feminine subjectivity that imagine various ways to demonstrate that woman ten赤a coraz車n. Este ensayo explora el di芍logo de Pardo Baz芍n con la ficci車n representativa realista, con sus obsesiones voyeuristas, revisitando ciertos pasajes de la novela Dulce Due o y revisando investigaciones feministas recientes (Bieder, Bacon, Medina y Kirkpatrick) que consideran la novela como una subversi車n, en distintos grados, de la mirada masculina. Mientras que estos cr赤ticos ven en la novela, acertadamente, un adem芍n hacia la modernidad, se examina tambi谷n aqu赤 su ojeada retrospectiva hacia anteriores tramas que exploran la subjetividad femenina y que imaginan varias maneras de demostrar que la mujer ten赤a coraz車n.
