a metric study with the purpose to determine characteristics and tendencies of scientific works done by ciego de 芍vila province authors, steaming from articles which were published in national journals and mediciego provincial journal from 2003 to 2007, was carried out. it allowed knowing that during this period 502 articles with 3, 2 author/article average and approximately 1:1 man/woman proportion were published. a production index of 2,5 every 100 professional health workers was obtained when considering the heath workers population. a prevalence of articles about clinical studies, followed by others on public heath and biomedical researches was obtained, while analysing the kind investigation according to its objective and level of analysis. scientific work production is low, although it is superior to what had been estimated in previous studies carried out in our province. most of the authors come from ciego de 芍vila and mor車n provincial hospitals. the necessity of creating adequate indicators to identify and characterize scientific work production in this province was emphasised.
