The paper aims to give a psychoanalytical study of the father and mother figure in Shakespeare’s trilogy, Henry VI. It argues that the father figure is the stablising force of a prosperous society, and the disruption of the patriarchal system will be disastrous. Then the paper will give a close study of the relationship between king Henry and his wife in the domestic circle. It will conclude by making a speculation about Shakespeare’s opinion about the patriarchy.
