objective: to identify the existing nursing publications in the period 1997 to 2007 relating to the topic of bone marrow transplantation and its main characteristics. methods: bibliometric study of scientific productions indexed on the following data bases: bdenf, lilacs, scielo, cepen and capes%26apos;s theses and dissertations data bank, using the key words: nursing and bone marrow transplantation, in the period from 1997 to 2007. results: were included 37 papers nationwide, including 17 dissertations, 2 theses and 18 articles, published in brazilian magazines, related to nursing care, organization and administration of bone marrow transplantation services, quality of life, psychological suffering and knowledge production. conclusions: the scientific production, even if quantitatively small, is increasing and it is based on theories, concepts and methods, primarily qualitatively oriented.
