At the condition of stable formation index, the relation between formation index and air permeability of paper was analyzed.The results showed that the formation index of the fiber flocks whose sizes were greater than3mm had a secondary curve relationship with air permeability, but there was not similar rule between the formation index of the fiber flocks smaller than 3mm and the effect to air permeability, and the effect created by the fiber flock size in 6-16mm on the air permeability is greater than those in 3-6mm fraction.The rule of the relation between formation index and air permeability is more clear with increase of paper base weight.
