Se brindan algunos datos en relaci車n con los aportes del doctor Nicol芍s Jos谷 Guti谷rrez Hern芍ndez al progreso de las ciencias m谷dicas en Cuba en general y de la Cirug赤a en particular durante el siglo XIX, con especial inter谷s en su contribuci車n a la bibliograf赤a m谷dica nacional. Se hace un an芍lisis cr赤tico del contenido del libro ※Breve manual de Medicina operatoria dispuesto en lecciones para el curso del a o 1839§, preparado por el doctor Guti谷rrez para su utilizaci車n como texto b芍sico del primer curso de Medicina operatoria impartido por 谷l en La Habana. Se pone de relieve la importancia de la obra, como recurso que posibilit車 sacar a la Cirug赤a del atraso en que se encontraba en la isla, y como reliquia bibliogr芍fica por ser el primer libro cubano destinado a la docencia en esta disciplina Information related to the contribution of Dr. Nicolas Jos谷 Guti谷rrez Hern芍ndez to the progress of medical sciences in Cuba , in general, and of surgery, in particular, during the 19th century is offered, giving a special emphasis to his contribution to the national medical bibliography. A critical analysis of the content of the book ※Breve manual de Medicina operatoria dispuesto en lecciones para el curso del a o 1839§ (Brief manual of operative medicine arranged in lessons for the course of 1839) prepared by doctor Guti谷rrez for its utilization as a basic text for the first course of operative medicine taught by him in Havana, is made. It is stressed the importance of the work as a resource that allowed to free surgery from the backwardness in which it was in the island, and as a bibliographical relic for being the first Cuban book devoted to the teaching of this discipline
