Se comunica el hallazgo del tibur車n Etmopterus unicolor (Engelhardt, 1912) (Squaliformes: Dalatiidae), capturado en octubre de 2003 como fauna acompa ante en faenas de pesca de merluza de cola Macruronus magellanicus novaezelandiae (Hector, 1871) en aguas del talud continental ubicado frente a Valdivia, Chile, a una profundidad de 400 m, mediante pesca de arrastre. Este constituye el primer registro de esta especie para la ictiofauna chilena y para el Pac赤fico suroriental. Se entrega la descripci車n del ejemplar estudiado y se compara con E. granulosus, la otra especie del g谷nero presente en el talud continental chileno One specimen of Etmopterus unicolor (Engelhardt, 1912) (Squaliformes: Dalatiidae), caught as part of the by catch of the %26quot;Hoki%26quot; Macruronus magellanicus novaezelandiae (Hector, 1871) fishery was studied. The lantern shark was caught on October 2003, on the continental slope off Valdivia, Chile, at 400 m depth, through trawling fishing. The specimen found is the first of this species recorded in Chilean and South Pacific Ocean ichthyofauna. This work is gives a description of the studied specimen and compares it with E. granulosus, the other species of the genus present on the Chilean continental slope
