Optimizing the discipline layout is one of the important tasks of science foundation reform in the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). As an emerging interdiscipline, Materials Chemistry was founded to lay solid foundation for developing transformative and strategic materials in the Department of Chemical Sciences. Strategic development plan and discipline layout of Materials Chemistry with the application code of B05, which have been completed in 2019-2020, are overviewed in this article for the researchers' reference.
