摘要

Superconducting magnetic energy storage system (SMES) stores electromagnetic energy directly in the superconducting magnet without any conversion stages, which has outstanding advantages such as fast response, high power density and high efficiency. It is considered to have an important application value in the field of renewable energy. The research status of SMES in the field of renewable power generation is reviewed. And its application is summarized as follows: solving the problems of power fluctuation and corresponding frequency stability, solving the problem of power system stability induced by the transient power unbalance, solving the problem of fault ride through (FRT) in renewable power generators and solving the coordination problem of SMES with other superconducting device. The basic principles and implementation methods of SMES's application in these aspects are introduced in detail. The technical maturity and economics are evaluated. Typical application cases are introduced and the key technologies that influence its future development are pointed out. Furthermore, the future development of SMES is prospected.
