scimago journal %26 country rank is a portal and informetric and scientometric indicators allowing researchers, publishers, information specialists and policy makers in science, especially in underdeveloped countries, monitoring of performance and impact of their contributions all over world. he uses the extensive collection of literature available in scopus. third among other alternatives, to rank serials processed by scopus, according to indicators such as scimago journal rank (2008), total material published in the last three years (2005-2007), the number of citations received by these materials during the year under review (2008), the average citations per paper for the past two years (2006-2007), among others; to find the location of countries according to total papers published between 1996 and 2008, the number of citations received by them, the average use of their contributions or other; the analysis of a country according to variables such as productivity, number of citations, average citations per paper, the proportion of documents cited and not cited, the percentage of total production at the region where the country is located and so on; the comparison according to various indicators between countries or serials, as well as the generation of thematic maps. the platform that offers scimago is an alternative very competent to services in these fields for years has provided the former institute for scientific information of the united states, with poor access for developing countries because of its subscription scheme.
