摘要

A view of scientific cognition as model-based reasoning has increasingly occupied the literature for recent two decades, and the elucidation of mental modeling has provided an elementary understanding of the cognitive basis for scientific reasoning. However, recent work on model-based reasoning in science only focuses on scientific discoveries and conceptual changes. This paper argues that the scientific cognition as model-based reasoning thesis may provide a model-based framework in the explanations of reasoning practices for every scientific context at the level for cognitive mechanisms and tries to account for normal science and scientific explanation within the model-based framework.
