摘要
the objective of this paper is to characterize the real exchange rate behavior and its effect on the venezuelan agri-food system (sav) during the 1973-2000 period. the author analyzes the sav at the aggregate level as well as for the meat and the cereals chains cases. he also presented time series data to compare real exchange rate, sav autonomy and relative prices relationships. the author concludes that the strong increase in the venezuelan oil revenues caused a severe appreciation in the real exchange rate, modifying the relative prices structure of the sav. this stimulated food imports, deteriorating sav autonomy until critical levels.
