Turning motion of an autonomous underwater vehicle with two ducted propellers is numerically simulated. Relationship between the differential velocity ratio of the propellers and the turning radius or the turning time period is obtained by using the slip grid and the overlapping grid method in different calculation fields. Pressure distribution of the propellers is also obtained. Validity of the hybrid grid is verified by comparing calculation results from the overlapping grid. It is indicated that the hybrid grid method combining with overlapping grid and slip grid provides reliable results with less computational resources for the turning motion of autonomous underwater vehicles.
